At Zinkworks we consider it a privilege to help those who share our community with us, and are proud to have New Horizon as our charity partner.

New Horizon is a community group which has been working with international protection applicants in Athlone since 2000, with a special focus on almost 350 residents in Direct Provision sites in Athlone and Horseleap, Moate.

Christmas Fundraiser 2020

For our 2020 Christmas fundraising initiative, we asked our employees to donate what they could from their December pay packet and we then matched that figure. We were delighted to present a check of €3,000 which went towards vouchers and hampers for the families that New Horizon helps.

March for March

In March, 2021 we carried out our ‘March for March’ step challenge. For every 1 million steps a team completed, Zinkworks donated €150. This time we were delighted to be able to raise €2,000 for families at New Horizon.

As a result of the ‘March in March’ campaign we were able to start our great Forest Experience project in Portlick forest, in which over 20 volunteers and children spent a wonderful 14 days experiencing the great outdoors.

100km Challenge

We decided to organise a 100km in 30 days challenge for the month of November 2021 to raise funds for New Horizon. Each employee who participated in the challenge donated €20 which totalled €2000, Zinkworks then pledged to match this figure, donating an additional €2000. The total funds raised through this initiative was €4000, a figure that we are delighted to give to New Horizon.

Local Sports Teams

As part of our community support initiative, we are also proud to support two local sports teams in 2021; the Athlone Cricket team and Bealnamulla U12’s Ladies football team.

Best of luck to all involved!
